Emma

When Emma first contacted Edel, she was preparing for her final Chartered Accountancy (FAE) exams and felt completely overwhelmed. Working full-time while studying had left her exhausted and anxious. She described herself as “constantly behind,” struggling to focus, and fearing yet another disappointing result. Emma heard about Edel’s approach to exam mindset and study coaching and decided to reach out.

In their first session, Edel helped Emma identify the root causes of her study stress, perfectionism, lack of structure, and low confidence after previous setbacks. Through tailored exam performance coaching, Edel worked with Emma to design a realistic study plan that fit around her busy work schedule. Together, they rebuilt her confidence using mindset tools, practical planning, and accountability check-ins.

Over several weeks, Emma learned how to study smarter, not harder, manage her time effectively, and approach mock exams calmly. Edel’s background as a qualified accountant, lecturer and examiner gave Emma reassurance that Edel really understood the pressures of the profession.

By exam day, Emma felt prepared and in control. When results were released, she had passed both papers and, more importantly, rediscovered her motivation and belief in herself.

Conor

Conor came to Edel Walsh after failing one of his ICAEW professional level exams. He felt frustrated, embarrassed, and unsure how to start again. Balancing a demanding role in audit with study commitments had left him exhausted, and he admitted he’d lost all motivation.

In their first session, Edel helped Conor understand what had gone wrong, not just with study technique but with his mindset. Together they identified the key challenges: inconsistent study habits, exam anxiety, and a lack of confidence after previous setbacks. Edel introduced him to practical tools including reflective journaling, structured study plans, and mental resilience techniques tailored for ICAEW exams.

Over several weeks, Conor worked closely with Edel to rebuild his focus. Weekly accountability check-ins kept him on track, while mindset exercises helped him replace negative self-talk with confidence and calm.

By the next exam sitting, Conor felt prepared and in control and he passed with ease.
