About Edel Walsh

Background & Professional Experience

Edel Walsh holds a degree in Finance from University College Cork and began her career with KPMG, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).

From professional practice, Edel moved into academia and professional education, where she held senior lecturer and examinership roles within professional accountancy bodies. She lectured advanced papers in Taxation and Finance across ACCA, CPA, ACA, and IATI programmes, at undergraduate, postgraduate, and Masters level.

Over a ten-year academic career, Edel taught and mentored a wide range of learners! From school leavers and mature students to international and professional accountancy students. She also spent time lecturing in China, working with international cohorts in accounting, tax, and finance.

About Edel

Edel graduated with a degree in Finance from UCC. Her corporate career started in KPMG where qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). From there, Edel moved into Academia and professional education where she held senior lecturer and examinership roles within the professional accountancy bodies.
She lectured the advanced papers of Taxation and Finance for the ACCA, CPA, ACA and IATI. She lectured at an Undergraduate, Post-Graduate and Masters level.

Edel worked as a lecturer for ten years primarily in the areas of finance, accounting, and taxation. Throughout this period, she taught and mentored a diverse range of students from school leavers to mature students, to international students and professional accountancy students. She has spent time in China lecturing international students in the areas of accounting, tax, and finance.

Exam Expertise & Assessment Insight

Edel has extensive experience in student assessment and professional exams.

As part of her postgraduate diploma in Higher Education, her research focused on the impact of closed-book assessment on professional accountants. She later worked as an examiner for a professional accountancy body, where she wrote exam papers and corrected thousands of professional exam scripts.

This experience gives Edel a deep understanding of how exams are designed, assessed, and experienced by students - insight that underpins all of her work today.

Talent, Leadership & Coaching

In 2017, Edel moved into Talent and Leadership Development, joining EY where she held a senior leadership development role.

During this time, she trained as a personal leadership and executive coach and established an internal coaching programme supporting trainee accountants through their professional exams. She also coached lower and middle management professionals transitioning from graduate to management and senior management roles.

This work bridged performance, wellbeing, and leadership development within demanding professional environments.

Approach & Philosophy

Edel’s approach is calm, practical, and psychologically informed. She works collaboratively, supporting people to think clearly, build confidence, and navigate challenge without unnecessary overwhelm.

She is particularly passionate about creating support structures that allow people to perform well professionally while remaining grounded and well personally.
